The Design Process

Creating a kitchen or bathroom design that reflects your lifestyle and design style while working within your budget and the possibilities and limitations of your existing space takes time, but yields fantastic results.

The first step is to explore in detail your goals and requirements for the renovation. My Kitchen Planning Guide provides step by step guidance for doing exactly that; I also discuss these topics and questions through a design consultation in our first meeting.

I then use your goals, requirements, budget, and existing space to create the first draft for your kitchen or bathroom cabinet design. Often there are multiple approaches to the cabinet design, and this is the time where we will investigate them all. In our second meeting, I will present several design options using plans, elevations and 3D renderings created in specialized kitchen and bath design software, using the cabinet style and finish that reflects your design choices.

Over the next several meetings, I will fine tune these options until we arrive at the final kitchen or bathroom plan. One of my key roles during this time is to help you understand the trade off’s that exist within different options: to make sure you are fully informed of the choices available, so that you can make the decision that is best for you. I will also provide samples of door styles and finishes during these meetings and help you select the right style for your kitchen or bathroom.

Once the cabinet design is final, we will order the cabinets and move on to selecting the remaining products, ensuring that we achieve a cohesive visual design with the cabinet style. What to Expect During Your Remodel provides detailed information on the full spectrum of product selection and the design and installation process.
